Gulf's oil spill

Please if I am wrong please correct me,

Here is my thought, with the oil spilling out into the Gulf at the volume that is, why cant they just plug it? I remember that earlier they tried one method of capping it, but they said ice crystals were forming on the inside. So that would indicate that ice can block the flow, RIGHT. Well why not use liquid nitrogen, pump in via the same pipe that the oil is coming out of, run the hose down to the base of the whole in the earth, release the nitrogen and it will freeze instantly upon being released, thus creating the ice blockage that was the problem earlier.
